About Us

Meet Brian Wholehan, the founder of Sylvania Dog Park! Brian was born and raised in Toledo, Ohio, attending Central Catholic High School before graduating from the University of Toledo. His career took him across the globe, where he spent nearly 13 years building Special Education programs, including a nine-year role in Abu Dhabi and Dubai assisting the Royal Family.
After returning to the U.S. in 2021, Brian settled in Sylvania, Ohio, where he quickly immersed himself in the community. He joined his HOA, became involved with the University of Toledo’s Center for Family Business, and helped bring Spectrum Sailing to the area. Over time, he established two businesses and even brought one of his own inventions to life—manufactured right here in Toledo.
His love for dogs, especially his husky, Bluey, fueled his passion for creating the Sylvania Dog Park. The idea sparked after a conversation with Larry Shaffer, who had built a park in honor of his son, Jake, and their dog, Cooper. Recognizing the importance of dog parks in fostering community connections, Brian saw an opportunity to bring this much-needed space to Sylvania.
The Sylvania Dog Park will be more than just a play area for dogs. With plans for secure fencing, water stations, a running path, and future expansions like agility equipment, lighting, and a larger parking lot, it will be a space for recreation, relaxation, and social connection. Brian envisions hosting events like “Pups and Brew” nights, food trucks, and community gatherings, making it a hub for both pet owners and residents alike.
